Vitamins That Women Need

Women have different nutritional need for different stages in their life. Women that are pregnant in their early twenties to late thirties need folic acid to help prevent birth defects. Women that are going through menopause require vitamin D and calcium supplements to improve bone health. Women are required to take more vitamins due to different changes in our body as we age and go through different stages.

–      Vitamin C helps the production of antioxidant in the body. These antioxidants help remove free radicals in the system and remove unwanted toxins. Vitamin C is also essential for immunity, it helps ward off unwanted bacteria and viruses from entering the body. It is also important for promoting healing and forming red blood cells.

–      Vitamin E like vitamin C is an essential vitamin for antioxidant. This vitamin is important to maintain the cell membranes and fight off Neuro-degenerative diseases. This vitamin is important for women that have intestinal disorders, but always consult your doctor before taking any vitamin. Too much vitamin E can increase the possibility of bleeding.

–      Vitamin B6 is important for brain function and metabolism. Lack of these vitamins can cause anemia. Vitamin B6 deficiency is a very rare occurrence in adults, but it is still important to maintain it. If you do not suffer from lack of vitamin B6 do not intake any supplement for it, large doses of these vitamins can be toxic.

–      Vitamin B12 id important for protein synthesis, normal cell division and metabolism. Vitamin B12 deficiency causes anemia. Deficiency of vitamin B12 is common in vegetarian and people that are prone to heavy period. Supplements are advised for the elderly, people with intestinal problems and women that have low stomach acid. You can measure your vitamin B12 levels through a blood test.

–      Vitamin D helps phosphorus and calcium absorption in the body. These minerals are essential to strong and healthy bones. When the body lack vitamin D, it will start to take phosphorus and calcium from the bones to supply the body. This will thin out the bones and cause bone diseases such as osteoporosis.

Getting all the vital vitamin in your body will keep you in your best condition physically and mentally. Get your recommended dosage from your doctor and don’t forget to eat healthy and exercise.

Chemical Attraction: Why Mosquitos Zone In On Some People, But Not Others

Everyone who has ever been camping or walking in the wild with friends can’t have failed to notice how insects seem to prefer some people’s flesh to others. Some unlucky souls are totally covered in itchy red blotches and others are miraculously spared. Sometimes only some family members are affected. My mother has never been bitten by a mosquito (though fleas like her) while my brother and I are often the targets.

Previous observations have shown a higher mosquito preference for larger people (who produce more CO2), beer drinkers and pregnant women, and although diet was often suspected as a factor, nothing in what we eat (even garlic) stood up to scrutiny.

The authors of a new study in PLOS One claim to have found the answer. They studied the differences in attraction of skin odours to mosquitoes, specifically Aedes aegypti, in a group of brave volunteers drawn from a group of female identical and non-identical twins – part of the large national TwinsUK cohort that I set up 21 years ago. The reason for using both kinds of twin was to separate the effects of nature and nurture (or genes and environment). In humans this is the only way to get a good estimate of the contribution of genetics to the differences between people.

Our valiant twins put their hands into a specially constructed plexiglass sealed dome where the odours either attract or repel 20 female mosquitoes without being allowed to bite. Each subject was given an attractiveness score compared to the other hand at the other end of the dome. Sure enough the identical twins, who share all their genes, had consistently more similar scores compared to fraternal twins – showing a clear genetic component. This comparison estimated that 67% of the differences between people (called heritability) was down to their genes.

Repel With Smell

Why might this be? Many years ago in another twin study we showed that underarm body odour as perceived by human sniffers had a genetic basis – with huge variability in how strong smells were perceived. This showed that we have gene variations controlling both the odours we perceive and the chemical odours we produce. In this way we are similar to mosquitoes because they also have big differences in which odours and chemicals attract and repel them.
Different mosquitoes prefer different parts of our bodies to others. The species Aedes Gambiae prefers the odours of our hands and feet to other bits like groins and armpits. Some animals use their body odour to keep insects away and companies have been trying to unravel what the best chemicals are.

The twin study authors realised that the chemicals could come from glands in our skin or from the billions of microbes on the surface. They discounted the bacteria as a cause as the dogma is that bacteria can’t be influenced genetically. It turns out they were wrong.

Your Own Personal Microbes

We all have very different and unique microbial species in our mouths, guts and on our skin. We share only a small fraction of our microbial species with each other - but still have a unique microbial signature fingerprint. Until recently it was thought this variety was random or due to where we lived. But recent studies, again using UK twins, have shown the importance of genes in influencing which type of gut bacteria flourish inside us – and the same is likely to be true for our skin.

Our 100 trillion microbes outnumber our own human cells ten to one and it turns out we don’t pick them - they pick us - based on our genetic makeup. This means that, just like mosquitoes, certain microbes prefer to coexist with us and other find us rather unpleasant and settle elsewhere.

Our microbes produce many of our vitamins and chemicals in our blood, and far from being the bad guys, their diversity contributes to our health. They are also probably responsible for most of our smells and odours. Even regular hand washing can’t remove these bacteria.
The special smell many of us have between our toes comes from a bacteria called Brevibacteria linens. This is identical to the bacterial species that gives Limburger cheese its distinctive smell.

To demonstrate that bacterial species are the same wherever they grow a team of microbiologists at UCLA performed an unusual experiment. They have started making and eating cheese from human skin – and reportedly this gourmet belly-button food tastes just fine.
So, the next time you get bitten by a mosquito on the ankle – don’t blame bad luck or your cheap repellent – think of the amazing evolutionary match-making processes that hooked up your special mix of genes to a particular community of microbes that feed off your skin and produce a chemical that only certain species of mosquito find irresistible.

The Best Time To Eat A Banana- Is it healthier to eat a banana while it’s fresh or when it’s ripe?

Do you know that the nutritional profile of bananas changes as they ripen? Have you notice that the riper the banana is, the sweeter it tastes? This is because the enzymes found in bananas is progressively breaking down starch (long polymeric form of sugar that doesn’t taste sweet) into simple sugars (monosaccharides, disaccharides, etc which taste sweet). Since starch has already turned into simple sugar when banana ripens it makes it easier to digest. Although according to studies, the amount of vitamins and minerals lessen as the banana ripens. That is why it’s preferable to store it inside the refrigerator.

Recent study by Japanese researchers has found a very interesting fact about bananas. It turns out that as banana ripens it produces antioxidant and anticancer properties. Full ripe banana with dark patches on yellow skin produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the capacity to combatabnormal cells. The study also shows that darker patches it has the higher its anti-cancer quality will be. Moreover, Yellow skin banana with dark spots on it is eight times more effective in enhancing body’s immunesystem than green skin version.

Therefore, it is best to eat banana when it is fully ripe. But if you have type 2 diabetes or you are avoiding a fast increase in your blood sugar levels, you could consider eating the ripe banana with nut butter – since fatslows down the absorption of sugars into your blood stream. Or you can simply eat the banana while it’s still greenish (level 3 or 4 in the pic)

Potty Talk: Why You Should Squat for Better Digestive Health

Squatty Potty

Toilet talk isn’t necessarily a popular subject, but maybe it should be! In this out of sync, fast paced, wild and modern world we are living in, we have become so disconnected from the simple, natural and beautiful things that make us who we are – humans.
We are natural beings living in a material oriented world, and that doesn’t always match up. We often forget to respect and honor the complexity of this finely tuned machine keeping us alive, our very own bodies.
Just as we aren’t naturally meant to spend hours inside watching television, or searching on the computer, there are many modern norms that don’t exactly match up with how our bodies naturally work. A prime example of this is the TOILET. Living in a time with an abundance of digestive issues and gut problems, it makes you wonder how much of this is linked to the dysfunctional system of elimination the majority of us currently use?
You might be thinking “What, who says it’s dysfunctional? Toilets are toilets!” But, there may be more to the story.
Whenever someone mentions taking a “bathroom break” they aren’t expected to return to the room for at least 15 minutes. We have books, magazines and crossword puzzles in our bathrooms. But honestly, this elimination should only take about 30 seconds, maybe a minute or two tops. There is something wrong when it is taking so much time, and straining effort to move everything out.
When we sit on a toilet seat, we sit at a right angle, feet touching the ground, sitting up straight. This may seem good, since we are using correct sitting posture, but that doesn’t mean its correct pooping posture! When we sit like this, we are squeezing a portion of the colon shut, obstructing the pathway, and tugging at the rectum. Almost pulling it sideways, the rectum is out of line from where it should be at this moment of release. This is problematic for obvious reasons.
If there is not a clear pathway, the waste isn’t able to move out of the body adequately, or completely, leaving behind waste product that is meant to be eliminated ASAP. This is where problems like constipation, hemorrhoids, diverticulosis and even infections can begin to take place. Some even attribute the modern toilet to another cause of colon cancer. Think about it, if this waste isn’t properly evacuated it is left in the colon to sit, rot and disturb your digestive system. This can be extremely toxic, not to mention, painful! We want this stuff out.
comparative angle
Now let’s take a look back at the way it was done before these crazy toilets came into place. Naturally, we would simply go into the woods and find a place to squat, and the job was done… quickly. The physical act of squatting straightens the rectum and allows the surrounding muscles to relax, promoting quick, easy and complete elimination, nothing left behind. This is perfect! No wonder this is how we did it before modern toilets – it’s instinct! It’s simply how our bodies work.
But how exactly are we supposed to do this, in modern times, when toilets are everywhere, and we aren’t camping?
In many parts of Asia and Africa they use squat toilets, which allow us to eliminate the way we naturally would, and this is wonderful. But most modern countries insist on using the sanitary straight sitting toilet. So for those of us living in areas with modern toilets, we need to get a little creative.
The ideal way to “squat” in modern times is to simply “perch” yourself up on the toilet. Do this by sitting on the toilet as you normally would, and placing your feet on the seat. So, this means simply raise the feet up, pull them in towards you, and place them on the seat right in front of you. Hugging your knees gives you more support. By bringing your knees closer to your body, it relaxes the colon and surrounding muscles. Now, go. That’s it! This may seem a bit silly, and even extreme for some, but it is a clean, easy, and effective way to squat on the toilet, nothing messy, nothing difficult. So why not try it?
However, for those who aren’t ready to sit the “perch squat,” there is still a way to improve elimination. Do you have a step stool in a closet somewhere that isn’t being used? Consider bringing it into the bathroom, and sliding it up near the toilet. Now, when it is time to sit, you can instead place your feet on the stool, which still brings your feet further off the ground, and your knees closer to your body. This isn’t perfect, but a definite improvement from the normal toilet seat position. There are even companies out there who make stools specifically for this purpose.
Whether or not you’ve experienced problems with elimination, I suggest giving one or both of these methods a try. You won’t believe how quickly your view on the subject will change. It becomes an easy, simple part of the digestive process, clean, relieving and smooth. Isn’t that what we all want? Let us allow our bodies to work as they are naturally meant to, and embrace this connection.
Happy elimination means a happy body! Enjoy your new digestive freedoms!

What is the Secret to Real Self-Confidence?

What is the Secret to Real Self-Confidence?

Have you ever lacked the confidence to speak your truth, express your creativity or even set boundaries? This is true for most people, but the real core issue is that we are not confident to be ourselves.
It’s funny to think that we need confidence in order to be our authentic selves, but it is true, nonetheless.
We are all born with innate confidence to be ourselves because we don’t know anything else. Try keeping a two year old from being himself. But as years go by, most children become socialized “not to be themselves.” A world where we are judged either worthy or unworthy is not a world where children, or adults, feel safe to be themselves. As time passes, the pressure and persuasion not to be oneself grows even stronger; “don’t do this, don’t do that, be this, but don’t be that.”
If you have to play the “worthiness-game,” and constantly monitor who you are in order to get approval acceptance and even love, you end up dead inside with little or no confidence to be yourself.
With tremendous stress to fit in, where is the space to find oneself? Where is the joy in self-discovery? Confidence is squashed and buried deep within.
If you have spent your life not being who you really are, you are probably somewhere between tired and depressed, because it takes a great deal of continuous effort in order to “not be yourself.”
Now imagine how dramatically your life will change when you embrace complete and absolute confidence
to be yourself. I am not talking about ego-driven confidence which is pseudo-confidence, but rather confidence that originates from the source of who you really are; confidence that can’t be broken no matter what life is dishing out to you. Confidence that is ever-lasting and reaches out to every aspect of your life. Confidence that makes other people feel good around you and want what you have.
Have you ever wondered, “what is the secret to real confidence?”
In most cases, the secret to anything, comes down to what we believe. Belief is the Magic Wand of the Universe. In this case, the Secret to Confidence is Believing in Yourself.
The degree to which you believe in yourself is relative to your level of confidence. The more you believe in yourself, the more confidence you will have.
We often don’t believe in ourselves because we think that we need “proof of worthiness.”
But, if you wait for proof in order to believe in yourself, it may never come in the way you need or want it to come. In order to really believe in yourself, you must disregard all the reasons that you shouldn’t believe in yourself and you must throw away the unreachable conditions. Believing in yourself is a choice. No one can do it for you. You must do it for yourself. You must claim it without conditions.
You take your power back from outside sources by Choosing to Believe in Yourself. Your power lies in your ability to Choose You!
With your own personal list of reasons why not to believe in yourself, it can be challenging to find that part of you that truly believes that you can be, do, have and create anything that you put your mind to. Yet, there is that part of you that knows who you really are and knows that you are, in fact, so powerful and gifted – that the world is your canvas and you can attain and create anything that you truly choose.
This is the part of you that I am now speaking to.
As you read these words That Part of You is responding; maybe you feel a sense of peace or power – maybe you feel Inner Confidence rising to the surface. Maybe you are remembering that your worth is not dependent on anyone or anything and that you cannot be defined by your failures or anything from your past. Maybe you are now waking up and feeling a deep stirring inside that tells you that you are Something More than you have ever believed yourself to be. Maybe the moment that you have been awaiting has finally come.
Did you know that being yourself is the only thing that you ever really have to do?
That’s right, your only job is to Be You. Of all the billions of people on this planet and all the people who have ever lived or will ever live, there is only one you. If you are not going to be you, then who will?
All those dreams of greatness that have grown cobwebs in the back of your mind are reigniting with a realization that they are real and they are telling you something Powerful about yourself – about who you really are. Those dreams have been given to you by a Divine Source that knows you and knows what you are capable of. Those dreams are Divinities Prophecy of You. Now, what part of you must you embrace in order to say “Yes” to those dreams and step confidently into your power? I am not talking about a moment in time; I am talking about your life – and living the way in which you were intended to live.
Every moment of doubt has been a lie. Every door that closed was an illusion. Every failure was simply an inability to see the truth of who you are. You are not who you have been taught to be. You are so much more. You are magnificent, brilliant and powerful with your own unique gifts, talents and insights that magically transform everyone and everything around you. You have the power – and despite every experience that convinced you otherwise, it has only grown stronger.
Look around you – this is YOUR Universe. This is your creation. It is time to claim this beautiful gift you call your life and finally live the way in which you were dreamed into creation. There is no turning back. The door has swung open, the red carpet has been unrolled and the world awaits your brilliant presentation.
I believe in you!

Your finger length reveals your personality!

Hold up your left hand with your palm facing out and see which category you fall in - A, B, or C.
finger length personality test

(A) The charming but pragmatic one.

People who have a ring finger longer than the index finger tend to be charming and irresistible to some at least. A's are the ones who can talk themselves out of just about any situation. Additionally, they're aggressive and excellent problem solvers. They tend to be incredibly compassionate and are often scientists, engineers, soldiers, and crossword puzzle masters.

(B) The confident, get-it-done type.

People with shorter ring fingers than index fingers are the self-confident, get-it-done types. They love solitude in which to work and accomplish the things they need to do, but that doesn't necessarily indicate introversion. They're very goal oriented and don't like to be disturbed. They appreciate what they have but often hunger for more.

(C) The peacenik.

C's are the peace-loving conflict-avoiding types. People with even ring and index finger length are well organized and want nothing but to get along with everyone. They are faithful in relationships, tender and caring partners, but beware: C's have a fiery core that while suppressed in normal day-to-day activities can be dangerous if unleashed. They might be peaceniks, but please, stay on their good side.

Olive Oil Compound Kills Cancer Cells In Less Than An Hour: All-Powerful Oleocanthal.

Oleocanthal, an antioxidant found in extra-virgin olive oil, has been shown to wipe out cancer cells in as little as 30 minutes.
By the time you finish watching your favorite TV drama, somewhere in a faraway lab the cancer cells will already be dead. Oleocanthal, the primary phenolic compound found in extra-virgin olive oil, has been shown to eradicate cancer cells in less than an hour, giving scientists hope that targeted drug options in the future may be possible.
A team of researchers from Rutgers University and Hunter College published their recent study in the journal Molecular & Cellular Oncology. The findings add even more firepower to the argument in favor of olive oil, which has been shown in prior studies to shield our bodies against air pollution, improve our immune systems, protect aging bones, and perhaps even prevent the slide into Alzheimer’s disease.
Under normal conditions, unnecessary cells experience a process called apoptosis, a kind of cell suicide, which takes between 16 and 24 hours. In their tests, Onica LeGendre and David Foster of Hunter College, and Paul Breslin of Rutgers, found the cells of all forms of cancer they were studying got wiped out within 30 minutes to an hour. Apoptosis couldn’t have been the only process at work, they thought.
“We needed to determine if oleocanthal was targeting that protein and causing the cells to die,” said Breslin, a professor of nutritional sciences, in a university release.
What they found was that oleocanthal was destroying the cancer cells’ waste centers, known as lysosomes, which are larger than healthy cells and also more fragile. “Once you open one of those things, all hell breaks loose,” Breslin said. They provide a necessary stabilizing function for the cell. After oleocanthal did its damage, critical functions began to suffer and the cell soon died. Plus, healthy cells stayed intact. After oleocanthal “put them to sleep” for a day, they rebounded as if nothing had happened.
The study isn’t without its limits. Cell cultures provide a reliable model for understanding how an external substance affects a new biological environment, but cells aren’t as complex as rats, which aren’t as complex as humans. It will still be years before oleocanthal makes its way into a clinical setting, by which time other technologies may have already crowded it out.
As a proof of concept, however, the findings suggest a robust set of possibilities for the compound. Oleocanthal is just one of the many phenols — a type of antioxidant — that appears in extra-virgin olive oil. It’s no accident the stuff appears in so many of the world’s healthiest diets. In addition to the heart-healthy antioxidants, olive oil provides a rich source of healthy fats that may preserve brain health and improve memory.
"We think oleocanthal could explain reduced [cancer] incidence in Mediterranean diets where consumption is high," Foster told Medical Daily in an email. "And it is also possible that purified (higher-dose) could possibly be used therapeutically."
Ultimately, the co-authors want to learn more about why oleocanthal targets and shrinks cancer cells specifically. “We also need to understand why it is that cancerous cells are more sensitive to oleocanthal than non-cancerous cells,” Foster said in the release. Even if consuming more olive oil won’t necessarily protect you from cancer today, budding research may help bring some of the ingredient into the hospital in the future.

What Happens If You Drink Water With Honey On An Empty Stomach!

Often, when we prepare  some beverage such as coffee or tea we add lemon, honey or some other ingredient to sweeten or improve the taste of that beverage. However, if you think about it a bit more profoundly, those ingredients are actually very healthy for consuming and have many beneficial properties by themselves.

As you all know, keeping yourselves hydrated during the day, especially with water is quite important and good for you and your body. However, if you did not know this by now, a simple mixture prepared from water and honey is a much more powerful combination that will do wonders for you and your overall health.

Honey is known as one of the healthiest and best commonly used products for consuming since ancient times. The benefits you get from consuming of honey and the healing properties it has are quite many and amazing. Here are only some of them that are most commonly known and popular:

Unlike all the sugar we consume with processed food and caffeinated drinks, honey contains natural sugar which is actually a very healthy source of calories. So, consuming honey means a healthy intake of sugar that is good and might even ward off your sugar cravings for all those artificially produced juices and beverages.
As this might be a cause for lower intake of calories, it will help you in losing weight and get rid of all those extra pounds you might have. You will not be able to notice some significant results immediately, but it will be a lot better on the long run.

The honey has powerful antiseptic, antibacterial and antiviral properties.
Raw organic honey is filled with enzymes, vitamins and minerals which protect the body from bacteria. It is also a very powerful antioxidant that helps in the body’s fight with free radicals.

Honey helps in reducing of the body’s susceptibility to environmental allergies.
The compounds found in it generally make it a great energy booster for the body.
So, when combining it with warm water, not only will you keep yourself well hydrated, but you will also improve your energy which will help you pass through exhausting days more easily.
There is no need to drink up to several cups of coffee a day to help you go through the day.
Hot honey with water has a soothing effect on the throat, thus reducing soreness and irritation which are the main causes for coughing.
The mixture prepared from warm water and honey is a great way for detoxifying and flushing out of all those toxins like mucus swirling around in your body which can be reasons for many diseases. As the honey collects water from the kidneys, it also helps when it comes to unpleasant and uncontrolled night urination.
Another detoxifying role of honey is that it helps with cleansing of the digestive tract from parasites and the intestines from deposits of toxins.
Yet another beneficial property of the honey is that it rejuvenates the colon’s flora and helps in eliminating of bacteria.
It is very simple to prepare this wonderful mixture. Simply add and mix a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water. If you want even stronger healthy energizing preventive weapon you can also squeeze a bit of lemon in your glass. This mixture is easily absorbed by the organism.

The best way to drink it is to fast empty the glass filled with freshly prepared honey water in the morning on an empty stomach or in the evening. Even late night drinking will not cause you any problems as it has a soothing effect on your kidneys and their work. You can even use it to clean and detoxify your face skin as it makes it softer, silky and shinier.

Evidently, there is a vast number of benefits you can get from drinking honey water, so if you have not done so already, make sure to start using it as soon as possible.
